Apple has filed a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission asking the agency ban the import of Android phones from Samsung in the United States.

The complaint is in response to a patent application filed by Samsung violation of the ICC last week to prevent imports of the Apple iPhone and iPad. Apple already filed a case against Samsung over seven patents related to technology and design of high-tech gadgets.

Ironically, the two companies are partners in some projects as the South Korean firm is a supplier of chips for Apple products. In 2010, the business between the two high-tech companies reached $ 5.7 billion.

Their legal battle has surpassed the United States, and includes proceedings in four other countries.

One expert said the ban on Samsung products would be unlikely, but the two electronics giants may be reaching a settlement agreement and cross-licensing in the future. The expert said that despite Apple’s reluctance to license its intellectual property firm based in California can be forced, because Samsung has a number of patents that could benefit from Apple.

Apple’s previous filing with a federal court in San Jose, California, sought to prevent the entry of the Samsung 4G Galaxy S, Infuse 4G, Droid Charge and Galaxy Tab in the U.S. until a trial patent infringement is held.

Apple said the design features of Galaxy, including the look of its icons from the screen, as evidence the copy of Samsung’s design. Samsung Galaxy claimed its Android phones are the products of research and development made by the company.
